Where to Rent a Kayak or Sailboat in Bangkok

Lake Nong Bon for Kayaking and Sailing, free in Bangkok!

There are a few good places to sail or boat in and around Bangkok, but only 1 place conveniently right in the heart of the city. And it's practically free! At the Nong Bon Water Sport Center near Rama 9 park, you only need to join for 40 baht per year (less than $2), and all the lessons, rentals, and sporting is free. The lake is on almost 300 acres of land, and rents water sports gear for boating, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and more.

Lessons are provided in all the water activities, free of charge. Life jackets are handed out, and mandatory for all water sports. They have sizes appropriate for kids and adults.  Loads of equipment available: sailboats, windsurf boards, kayaks, more.

The lake itself is very quiet (most days), with calm waters and a nice breeze. My friend Dey is in the photo - on a rainy day you can still Kayak!

There are also fitness facilities, an obstacle course, and places for bike riding. A lot to do for less then $2!

The center is connected to other centers near the beach (Bang Saen and others), so you can learn to wind surf at the lake, then try your skills out on the ocean..

Getting there:
Lake Nong Bon Water Sport Center is located just behind the huge Seacon Square shopping center. From Srinakarin, take soi 43 left after Paradise; from the Sukumvit, the turn-off is after Bearing, or take bus no. 145. 19 or 207. Alternatively, buses also go from Mall Bangkapi to Seacon (Bus 202 or Songtow 93), and then you can take a motorbike or taxi the rest of the way.
Note that the lake is not far from Suvarnamhbumi International Airport.

The lake and sports center are open every day from 8.30 am. to 6.30 pm. Lessons in sailing and windsurfing are given until 4pm.
