Top 5 Budget Hotels in Bangkok

My five favorite budget hotels in Bangkok have something in common: cheap, clean, friendly, and easy to access. When friends come to visit me in Bangkok, I like to accommodate them in one of these hotels. Look closer at my top choices:

Nasa Vegas Hotel
The name sounds strange, but the price and accommodations are just right. A standard room (double bed for 2 people) is just 699 baht, or about $25 per night, and deluxe rooms start at just $32.
The Nasa Vegas hotel, or just "Nasa" as the Thais call it, has two towers of 21 floors each. One tower is a short-stay apartment building (rented by the month) and the main tower is a hotel. The rooms are small, but very clean and nice, with modern facilities. The lobby is beautiful and houses several salt water aquariums. There is an excellent restaurant open 24-hours on the lobby floor, and the food is quite good. The staff are extremely friendly!

(front of hotel as it connects to the sky-train)

This is also one of the easiest hotels to get to from the airport. Just take the airport-link sky train and get off at the Ramkamhaeng station. The hotel is right across the street. Make sure you take the city-line and not the express train. If you take the express, you'll end up 1 station too far, then have to come back one stop on the city line. You're not right downtown, but you are directly across from the sky-train, which can get you to the city center in just 10 minutes. This makes for a quiet stay that is still close to the city's chaos - without being right in the maelstrom.

Citin Pratunam
If you prefer to be right downtown in the middle of all the hubbub, Citin Pratunam is just $40 per night. It is a noisy area, but you'll be smack in the middle of the fashion district. You can step outside your door and start shopping. You're also just 10 minutes from Siam Discovery and many other points of interest. However, you will have to walk (or taxi) a few blocks to get to the sky-train station. Many restaurants are all over the area, so walking to dinner will be easy, too.
The rooms are clean and a mid-sized. Friendly staff, and plenty of amenities, towels, etc. Because it's in the fashion district, women will particularly love this place. Stay here if you're a shopaholic.

Om Yim Lodge
If night life is your thing, you'll want to be near the Silom district. Om Yim Lodge is just a 10 minute walk from Silom, or a 3 minute (1 stop) ride on the Sky-train. The hotel is right at the Chong Nonsi BTS sky-train station. You are also just 2 stops away from Siam Square, Central World, Paragon Shopping Plaza, and 3 stops from MBK. You can be there in 5 to 10 minutes, easy!
Their rooms are quite small, but are very clean and modern. The furnishings are art deco and a bit avant garde. There is a small bar in the lobby. The rates are just $30 per night for a standard room. They also have large rooms with kitchenette and double beds ($45) and weekly rates for longer stays.
A lot of hip, young travelers like this spot, so it's more suited for the younger travelers who are night owls and craze the famous Bangkok night scene.

Salin Hotel
An extremely cheap, safe and clean hotel at about $18 a night... this one is a bit harder to get find. It's on Ramkamhaeng soi 50, at the bottom of the soi on the right. You won't stay here if you need to be at Paragon every day, but for more adventurous travelers - it's a great Bangkok hotel!
Don't expect any English spoken here. This hotel is good if you already know someone in BKK.

None of these hotels have pools, but all are near a water-park in each location. There are also plenty of outdoor markets near each of these hotels.

Century Park Hotel near Victory Monument has some great deals during low season. A standard $140 room can be found for as low as $68.  Keep your eyes peeled for deals. This is an upscale clean hotel.

Nasa Vegas Hotel : Overall Best Choice, quiet and inexpensive, right at the sky-train
Citin Pratunam : Shopper's Choice
Om Yim Lodge : Nightlife Choice,
and Salin House: Budget.

There are 1000s of hotels in Bangkok.  It's even possible to land and look around without a reservation. I wouldn't try that in high season, but it can be done.  Enjoy the trip!
