- Don't hesitate: buy it! If you are even 60% sure you want something, and it's not too expensive, grab it while you can. It might not be there later, or more likely you just can't find the shop again. My mom likes to walk a mall 3 times and comparison shop, then go back to the place with the best deal. You can't do that in Bangkok. You seriously won't find the vendor or shop again. They move to different places every week, or even from day to day. If you like it, and it's reasonable in price, just buy it.
- Bring your own large bag to consolidate all the smaller bags, or use it to save the planet and not take bags from merchants. You can buy large cloth bags for about 60 baht ($2) at most markets.
- Wear sensible shoes. Lots of walking ahead of you.
- Take breaks for food. After all, that's the fun of Thailand: its food. Stop often for a drink and a snack. That way, you can last longer and shop more.
- The malls are freezing cold compared to the heat in the outdoor markets. Take a sweater for the indoor places. That seems crazy in 98 degree weather, but you'll catch cold in some of these indoor plazas.

- Don't just shop in the tourist hubs. Explore the local outdoor markets, too. Check out my article on "Secret Shopping Spots" for some ideas. Discover new venues on your own.
- Final Tip: If you can't find what you're looking for, just ask another vendor. They are great about sharing information or evening sending you to another shop. They usually know exactly where to find everything in their market. No left-handed butterfly sculptures? No worry, Mr. Lek sells those just a few rows over.
So now you're ready to shop til you drop. Bangkok shopping really will test your strength.
